All I Do Is Dream - An Octet Tribute to Duke Ellington

  • The Paris Cat 6 Goldie Pl Melbourne, VIC, 3000 Australia (map)
In jazz [Ellington] was a giant among giants. And in twentieth century music, he may yet one day be recognized as one of the half-dozen greatest masters of our time.

Presenting the music of the great Duke Ellington is “All I Do Is Dream” – a new Melbourne septet led by bassist Oscar Neyland (Yellowbird, Oscar Neyland Quartet, Ricochet). Devoted to presenting tribute nights to jazz icons of the past with entirely new arrangements, each concert features guest artists leading the group through the music and stories of their chosen icon.

On this occasion Tasmanian singer Aly Patmore leads the group through her Duke Ellington arrangements, developed while studying at the University of Performing Arts and Music in Graz, Austria. A recipient of the prestigious PPCA Performers Trust Australian Award, Aly is a performer who focuses on developing a relationship with the audience through the stories contained within the songs. She currently resides in Hobart, directing the Hobart Jazz Octet and the Aly Patmore Trio.

The group consists of:

Aly Patmore on Vocals (Hobart Jazz Octet, Aly Patmore Trio)

Niran Dasika on Trumpet (Movement 9, Mingus Thingus)

Tom Noonan on Alto (Bennett’s Lane Big Band, Lightly Toasted, Tom Noonan Trio)

Ron Romero on Tenor (Brae Grimes V, The End)
